Strong Winds

Due to the strong winds yesterday there is lots of clean up to do today. A few small cedars came down and there are lots of branches to clean up around the course.

Course Drainage

New drainage is being installed on the fairway on # 8. With the wet conditions we have had over the last week the area at the start of the 8th fairway has been noticeably drier than in the past.
Also the swampy area behind the maintenance facility (above picture) has been drained (below picture). A drain was installed from this area, across  # 8 and 7, to the pond on #5. In the future we will be able to add extra drains to the surrounding areas and tie them into this new drain system.

Course Opening

The course has opened for golf. The course is very wet from the rains we have received over the last week. Power carts are not available for use and will be a daily decision pending on the weather. The bunkers have received there first rake of the season so they are still going to be firm to play from.

April Weather

We have received enough rain on the course over the last few days that we are now saturated. There is standing water on many of our fairways and in our bunkers.
When the rain stops it will take a few nice days for the water to drain away and the ground to firm up again.

April Weather

The poor weather seems to be holding on. We had lots of wind over the weekend. Light snow is on the ground and there are lots of branches to be cleaned up.

Course Preparation

The course is looking better by the day. We have done our first cuts on greens, tees, fairways and roughs. The newly constructed first tee also had its first cut.
He does it all. Everyone is helping out getting the course ready.

First Cut

The first cuts have been made on the greens. This cleans them up after the winter and makes them look like golf greens. Over the next few weeks we will lower the heights gradually until we get them down to playing height.

Under the Covers

All the winter covers have been removed from the greens.
This process takes a few people removing the staples that hold the tarp down, pulling the tarp off the green to an open area to let it dry and then folding them up to store until the fall when they are needed again.
Under the tarps the grass has started to grow. We have had good control of any winter diseases on the greens and we do not have any ice damage. As long as the weather continues to get warmer and we get some nice rains the greens should have a good start to the season.

Course Clean Up

The course is getting greener by the day. Snow is holding on in a few areas but with some rain coming in the forecast hopefully not for too long.
The frost is slowly coming out of the ground and the clean up on the course has been going well. As the frost comes out the course is getting soft and we are unable to get around with any heavy equipment. We will now concentrate on raking debris into piles to pick up when the course firms up.
